Pacific Coast Trip: Morro Bay

It was exceedingly windy but the Native Californians were making the best of it in Morro Bay. We saw a few people kite surfing in the ocean and some paragliders right over the freeway. It was a fun challenge to find as many of the “sisters” as we could (see Travis’ description below). We came up with 4.

Ainsley:

I went to a rock called Morro Rock. The rock was next to the ocean. I saw otters in the ocean. They are black and white.  They were fighting over a clam or something, I’m not sure what it was.

Morro Rock in its entirety taken from a hill across the bay. Several tall and downed trees in foreground.

I saw that the ocean was white, brown, green and blue. It was striped like lines or little rectangular areas of each one. The white was next to the sand, then brown was close to the white, then it was the green, and then the blue. I think it was brown because there was so much dirt that got washed into that section.

People were kite surfing in the water. It looks scary.  It was windy so they had to be strong.

After that we went to a mission called San Luis Obispo. We walked around the town. I saw lots of stores. We went into an art shop. I saw lots of pictures and paintings. The Disneyland one was my favorite.

Side view of a wooden sign. Top of sign reads, “1772 Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa.” Remainder of sign depicts the mass schedule.

We went to dinner with Daddy’s old friend.  We talked at the dinner. I ate a quesadilla with beans. We played with Michelle’s daughter Megan. We showed her pictures of our previous trips.

I’m glad i got to see an old rock.

Travis:

Today I went to this place called Morro Rock. Morro means round. The rock was named by Cabrillo. It was very big. Did you know that there is a couple peregrine falcon nests there?  We walked around the rock and saw a ton of cute sea otters! Two of them were fighting over a clam! We also saw some kite surfers! They were really brave to ride a kite in the water. I bet I would be super scared to do that.

Then we went to climb another rock in the same formation as Morro rock: the 9 sisters. The 9 sisters are a formation of volcanic plugs. Those are places where lava has cooled up in a volcano which eroded away. The rock was called Black Hill. It was super cool there; I can’t wait to go again.

Kids stand sideways and look at the camera on a trail on Black Hill. Background is a large marsh and a windy road at bottom of hill.
